November 9, 2007 We were recently asked by a potential client, what makes OP Solutions different from other vendors… Our focus and strength are on the nuts-and-bolts of IP portfolio management. This is exemplified by our knowledge of the industry and understanding of how an IP-shop works. We maintain this position by staying in touch with changes in the IP landscape while being flexible and responsive to the needs of our user-base. There is currently no better example of this than the new PTO rules for claims and continuations. Though the laws themselves have not passed yet, the upgrade with these new features was distributed to all our clients more than two weeks prior to the original effective date of November 1, 2007, as part of our normal support service with no additional fees at all. This current example is not an exception. We have taken similarly decisive action during previous industry changes such as: Inventors Protection Act, Enactment of GATT Laws, US ascension to Madrid Protocol, Community Trademarks, Community Designs, PCT Practice Reforms, etc. It is simply, how we do business! Changes like these reflect on the vendor’s responsiveness and ability to react to changes in the IP industry. This speaks to the timely and thorough service we provide. September 20, 2007 PATTSY UPGRADES COMING FOR USPTO CLAIMS & CONTINUATIONS CHANGES On August 21, 2007, the USPTO published new rules which place conditional restrictions on claims and continuations for US patent applications. As always, we pay close attention to changes in the IP industry and are adapting the PATTSY software to address the needs of our clients in a timely fashion. A system-level upgrade is being prepared, introducing enhanced functionality to help our clients address these new regulations. The upgrade will be distributed in conjunction with the 3rd quarter 2007 law update and is expected to be released mid-October. Please contact OP Solutions for more information. March 16, 2006 USPTO OVERHAULING PATENT E-FILING On March 16, 2006 the USPTO released its EFS Web System.  EFS-Web is a web-based patent application and document submission system.  Advantages of using the system include faster processing and confirmation, reduction in fees for a small entity and reduction in paperwork.  Many forms are not yet available and the PTO in a recent teleconference stated that the forms may only come available at a rate of two every six months.  PATTSY's PTO forms library can be used in conjunction with the Adobe PDF distiller to create some of the documents required for submission.  We will be keeping a close eye on the PTO's progress in an effort to provide more robust tools in the near future.  For answers to frequently asked questions visit the USPTO's website at http://www.uspto.gov/ebc/efs_faq.htm
